The Sixth China Changsha International Guitar Festival will be held in Changsha in July 15-19, 2017.
The purpose of the open competition is to identify outstanding musical talent, and to provide opportunities to gain experience of performing.
The jury consists of national and international musicians, music scholars, and music experts.
The jury will seek to identify the most promising musical performers who demonstrate all around excellence in musicianship, technique and performing ability.

01 Open Group
1st Prize: 10,000 US dollars cash, Martinez Kenny Hill Performance, certificate
2nd Prize: 5,000 US dollars cash, Martinez DF69 C/S, certificate
3rd Prize: 3,000 US dollars cash, Martinez ES–14C/S Granada, certificate
4th /5th /6th: 500 US dollars cash, certificate
Note: The winner of the Open group will hold a solo concert tour in 2018 in six Chinese cities, with the full support of the organising committee of International Guitar Festival Changsha China. All the certificates in the open group will be signed by judges.
02 Youth Group

RULES OF COMPETITION
1. Open Group
PRELIMINARY ROUND:
Set piece: one piece from the baroque period.
Free choice: one or more pieces by different composers from periods other than the baroque.
The total performance time must not exceed fifteen (15) minutes. Pieces can be performed in any order.
FINAL ROUND:
Set piece: a new piece composed by Benjamin Verdery for the Changsha Festival. The work will be sent to contestants on 15 May 2017.
Free choice: one or more pieces. All pieces in the final round should be by different composers. While material from the preliminary round may NOT be repeated in the final round, different works by the same composers can be used in the two rounds.
The total duration for free choice piece(s) must be no longer than twenty five (25) minutes. Pieces can be performed in any order.
Requirements: no limits in age or nationality. The contestants should provide the music scores of their chosen repertoire when registering on arrival in Changsha.
2. Youth Group
PRELIMINARY ROUND:
Set piece: a new piece composed by Nejc Kuhar for the Changsha Festival. The work will be sent to contestants on 15 April 2017.
Free choice: one or more pieces from different composers.
The total duration for free choice piece(s) must be no longer than five (5) minutes. Pieces can be performed in any order.
FINAL ROUND:
One or more free choice pieces from different composers. While material from the preliminary round may NOT be repeated in the final round, different works by the same composers can be used in the two rounds.
The total performance time must not exceed twelve (12) minutes.
Requirements: 11-15 years old, those born between (and including) July 14, 2002 and July 15, 2006 are eligible; any nationality.
3. Children group A
PRELIMINARY ROUND:
Set Piece: Ejercicio by Jose Ferrer (from the ABRSM book2)
Free choice : one or more pieces from different composers.
The total performance time must not exceed eight (8) minutes. Pieces can be performed in any order.
FINAL ROUND:
All finalists are required to perform a minimum of two (2) works of contrasting styles, by different composers. The pieces can be from the same composers in the preliminary round. Material from the Preliminary Round may NOT be repeated in the Final Round.
Total performance time not to exceed ten (10) minutes.
Requirements: 9-11 years old, those born between (and including) July 15, 2006 and July 14, 2008 are eligible; any nationality.
4. Children Group B
PRELIMINARY ROUND:
Set Piece: Packington's Pound, arranged by J.Andrew Creaghan (from the ABRSM book 3)
Free choice : one or more free choice pieces from different composers.
The total performance time must not exceed eight (8) minutes. Pieces can be performed in any order.
FINAL ROUND:
All finalists are required to perform a minimum of two (2) works of contrasting styles, by different composers. The pieces can be from the same composers in the preliminary round. Material from the Preliminary Round may NOT be repeated in the final round.
Total performance time not to exceed ten (10) minutes.
Requirements: under 9 years old; born on or after July 15, 2008; any nationality.
Ultimate authority to interpret the Rules of Competition rests with the Organizing Committee of the 2017 Changsha International Guitar Festival.
