Mission for the 2016 GuitarFestival
Purpose:
The Changsha International Guitar Festival, China (GCC), aims to be a world-class arts-event for guitar players and fans from around the globe. It is one of the highest-ranking and most influential international guitar festivals in China, and the highest-paying classical guitar competition in Asia.
Activities during the Festival include: international guitar playing competition, international guitar composition competition, concerts, master workshop, seminars and exhibitions, amongst others.
To commemorate the 100th birthday of world-renowned composer Alberto Ginastera and the hundred anniversary of the death of Spanish composer Enrique Granados, the Open and Youth Groups of the Festival this year will include the works of these two masters in the required repertoire so that young guitar players may take the opportunity to learn more, and pay tribute to their great contributions. The required repertoire of the Youth Group contains the original works of Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. Young contestants may take advantage of this opportunity to explore his great works.
The Competition will not only let talented guitarists showcase their abilities, but more importantly, enable all contestants to learn about the works in an all-round manner.
Celebrated guitarist Yang Xuefei has accepted the Festival’s invitation as Artistic Director.
The guests invited to this year’s Festival are a testament to the Organizing Committee’s persistent pursuit of innovation in guitar music. They are:
